All You Need to Know About Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening at Evolve Holistic Dentist Brisbane

A common question that we get asked at Evolve Dental Healing Holistic Dentist is, “Am I suitable for teeth whitening?”. Teeth whitening is without a doubt one of the most popular procedures at our dental office. Did you know there are many ways that you can whiten your teeth and achieve your desire for bright pearly whites and that more youthful, fresh looking smile?

Dr Rachel Hall Dentist explains what teeth whitening options are available for you.

1.  In-office Teeth Whitening.  You have probably seen or heard of zoom teeth whitening.  We use a similar technique but using a natural whitening product that contains no toxic chemicals and will not harm your teeth.  In-office whitening, as the name suggests, is done in the dentist office and usually takes 1 to 2 hours.  It will give you that white smile that you have always wanted quickly and immediately!  It is however the most expensive yet the most predictable of the options and regular maintenance is required to keep your teeth shining brightly.

2.  Custom Teeth Whitening Trays.  This is probably the most popular of all the options where you apply the whitening to your own teeth in the comfort of your own home. How does it work?  Custom molds or impressions are taken of your teeth and clear plastic trays are made. The whitening gel is placed inside the trays and then over your teeth.  The process needs to be repeated several times over a period of approximately 2 weeks times they are worn. Unlike most take home whitening where you need to wear it over nigh or few hours at a time our natural product can be done in is a little as 90 minutes per session.  Once you have trays you just have to buy a top-up whitening gel from the office when you run out and want to whiten your teeth again. The tray allows for a more uniform application to teeth, which ensures the whitening will work evenly on all of your teeth.

3.  Pre-made Teeth Whitening Trays.  This is also a very popular way to whiten teeth as it is relatively inexpensive and simple to use. However the desired results cannot be controlled as easily as the trays are not made to precisely follow the shape and contour of your teeth.  This may mean you end up with a patchy or uneven end result. Some whitening strips/trays are made with hydrogen peroxide while others are made with carbamide peroxide.  ‘So what?’ you might say, using the wrong product for your teeth or ones that are too harsh will cause tooth sensitivity.  However, if you are looking for an inexpensive way to whiten teeth then this might be the best option for you.

4.  Whitening Strips or Toothpaste.  An easy way to whiten teeth is by simply using whitening strips or a whitening toothpaste, however the results will not be as noticeable or as brilliant as it would be with professional teeth whitening as these products contain different and very small amounts of active ingredients.  It is very hard with whitening strips/toothpastes to get a noticeable or satisfactory result.

Now that you know your options for teeth whitening you can make an educated decision on what type of whitening is best for you and your smile.
