Tips To Take Care of Your Smile

Dr Rachel Hall shares her tips to take care of your smile.

These days everyone wants a smile that they can be proud of and 90% of people say that another person smile is one of the first things they notice when meeting for the first time.

Taking care of your smile is more important than ever before, science is showing daily how your dental health affects your physical health. But having a smile you are unhappy with can also present emotional difficulties as people who feel their teeth are unattractive often lack the confidence to smile and become more self-conscious in social situations. There are many ways your dentist can help.

Tips To Take Care of Your Smile

Here are 6 of my tips to get you on the way to having that beautiful smile you deserve.

  1. Healthy habits. Brushing twice a day for two minutes and flossing daily are essential for everyone, no matter how unique your mouth is. It’s the best way to fight tooth decay and gum disease. You can also look at using a tongue scraper to clean your tongue and using a good quality alcohol-free mouthwash regularly too.
  2. Eat A Diet Full of Nutrients. Like the rest of your body, your teeth and gums need a healthy diet to be healthy. A diet rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and low in sugar is not only good for your health but your teeth and gums too.
  3. Get Regular Dental Check-ups. Continuity of care is an important part of any health plan and dental health is no exception. When you see your dentist regularly, it improves our ability to detect and catch oral problems early. For instance, catching gum disease when it’s still reversible, or cavities when they are small and are more easily treated.
  4. Look After Yourself. Keeping your mouth healthy is an essential piece of your overall health. Having healthy gums reduces your risk for heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer’s and even cancer. It’s important to keep your dentist informed of any changes in your overall health or medications as well as these can impact on your dental health and the care that is provided.
  5. Talk About It! Only your dentist can determine what the best treatment plan is for you. If you have questions about your oral health or certain dental procedures then ask us. Start a conversation as we will be delighted as your dentist to explain step-by-step to help you have a better understanding, informed choice and to be part of your dental care and decision-making process – after all, they are your teeth.
  6. Make Your Dentist Your Partner in Your Dental Health. When choosing a dentist you want someone who is going to share your philosophies on health and dental care; this is really crucial when it comes to holistic dentistry. You may want to call or visit more than one holistic dentist before making your decision. Read their website, check out any online reviews and do your homework to make sure this is someone you feel you can have a good relationship with. Dental care is a very personalised service that requires a good relationship between the dentist and the patient. During your first visit, you should be able to determine if this is the right dentist for you.

At Evolve Dental Healing we endeavour to provide you with the best quality care using quality fluoride free and mercury free dental materials and natural products. We also want to make your visit with us as informative and as pleasant as possible, hence why we schedule longer appointments than most traditional dentists so we can to get to know you and your dental and health history.

Our aim is to explain what is going on in your mouth and give you the techniques and information about lifestyle choices that will help you prevent dental health problems.

We will work with you to improve any conditions that you may currently be suffering from or have concerns about such as gum disease, TMJ issues, bad breath and the appearance of your smile.

We will always provide you with a detailed treatment plan including information about fees before scheduling treatment for you so that you know in advance what is required.

As your holistic dentist I, am your partner in maintaining your oral health. Take time to ask questions and take notes if that will help you remember the advice that I give you, after all, I, am here to help and support you to achieve your dental and health goals.

The level of education and clinical training required to earn a dental degree, and the high academic standards of dental schools are on par with those of medical schools. Upon completion of our training, dentists must pass rigorous exams and a have a clinical license in order to practice. For the remainder of our careers, we must meet continuing education requirements so that we stay up to date on the latest scientific and clinical developments.  So never underestimate the value of what your dentist can offer you when it comes to giving you the best care and advice for your mouth and your health.

As a holistic dentist, I love having satisfied, healthy patients and want to work with you so that you can have a beautiful healthy smile and mouth.
