How long it takes to feel better after amalgam removal will depend on several factors and will vary from individual to individual. The most important factor is ensuring that before you have your mercury amalgam fillings removed that you ensure you choose a holistic dentist like Evolve Dental Brisbane who follows the correct protocols during the amalgam removal process.
Make sure you use a SMART certified dentist for your amalgam removal as these protocols will reduce your exposure to mercury.
To help answer the question how long does it take to feel better after amalgam removal let’s look at the results of a study measuring mercury in biological fluids after amalgam removal.
Dental amalgam is the major source of inorganic mercury (Hg) exposure in the general population. The objective of the study was to obtain data on changes in mercury levels in blood, plasma, and urine following removal of all amalgam fillings during one dental session
The study showed a transient increase of mercury concentrations in blood and plasma within 48 hours after amalgam removal which then began to decrease.
Sixty days after the amalgam removal, the mercury levels had declined to approximately 60% of the pre-removal levels.
For most subjects after 90-120 days (3-4 months) there was a considerable decline in the mercury levels in the biological fluids which slowly approached those of subjects without any history of amalgam fillings.
The study concluded that the process of removing amalgam fillings can have a considerable impact on reducing the mercury levels in biological fluids.
From this study, we could say that as the mercury levels decline significantly that it takes approximately 3 to 4 months to feel better after amalgam removal.
How quickly you will feel better or notice a difference after the removal of mercury amalgam fillings will depend on several factors such as your health history, nutritional status, stress levels, number of amalgam fillings, the size of the amalgam fillings and how long you take to complete the process of amalgam removal.
If you have poor health, poor diet, high stress, and lots of large amalgam fillings that you have removed slowly over time then it will take you longer to recover as your body is overloaded and already burdened and will find it harder to detox mercury and recover from its impacts.
Conversely, if you are in generally good health, have a nutritionally dense diet, low stress, and only a few small amalgams that you have removed in a short timeframe over one or two visits then your mercury burden will be less and your body is in a better position to detox and recover from the harms of mercury toxicity.
Either way removing your amalgam fillings will significantly reduce your body burden of mercury and support you to feel better and improve your health.
