There is a new paradigm emerging in health care, one that focuses on the process of health and wellness instead of the treatment of disease. This new medicine embraces both modern science and knowledge drawn from the world’s great traditions of natural healing.

Study of these traditions reveals certain truths that can be applied to promote health and well being. These basic principles form the foundation for all holistic health practices.

We offer an innovative approach to holistic dental health care of the mouth, incorporating a broad range of holistic dental services to enhance your smile, and to restore comfort and function to your mouth.

  • Biological General Dentistry: Comprehensive natural care for your mouth, teeth, and gums, with your overall health our primary concern. At the core of this approach to dental care is the recognition of the mouth as a micro-environment of the body with the potential to reflect changes in the health of the whole person.
  • Cosmetic Dentistry: Advanced Cosmetic Dentistry to give you a smile that communicates your true spirit to others with crowns, bonding, porcelain laminates, a whitening to brighten your smile.
  • Gum Disease and Tooth Decay Natural Integrative Therapy: Natural Treatment for Gum Disease that utilises nutrition and supplements/herbal medicines to enhance the health of your gums. Medical research has established a systemic link between gum disease and various systemic disorders.
  • Integrative Orthodontics: Integrative Orthodontics that straightens teeth, creates beautiful smiles, and improves the posture and function of the body utilising the latest functionally oriented orthodontic techniques combined with a holistic approach to correct alignment of the whole body.
  • The Dental Treatment of Snoring and Sleep Apnoea: Oral appliances are worn in the mouth to treat snoring and sleep apnoea. These devices are similar to orthodontic retainers or sports mouth guards though designed to promote easier breathing and relaxation of the nervous system.
  • TMJ/Cranial Therapy: TMJ & Head and Facial pain are treated with an advanced approach integrating complementary therapies, with the best of Dentistry.
  • Safe Removal of Mercury Amalgam Fillings: During removal of Mercury-Amalgam fillings and replacement with carefully selected bio-compatible alternatives, mercury is released as a vapour. We will be using specially developed protocols to minimise your risk of exposure to this very toxic material.
  • Bio-compatibility Screening of Materials Used: Because each of us presents a unique situation it is important that composite and other materials to be used in our mouths is screened to insure bio-compatibility for us. Therefore we screen to make sure the materials we use will not have an allergic reaction or other adverse affect.
  • Dental Connection: In biological dentistry we look at the mouth as a micro environment of the body with the profound potential to reflect and influence the health of the whole person. If the flow of energy is disrupted through the mouth it may affect other regions of the body, and conversely, disruptions elsewhere may manifest in the mouth. We will treat your mouth considering the dental energy points in order to treat your whole body
  • Dental Implants: A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is surgically placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants are an ideal option for people in good general oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason. Pure titanium is used as the tooth root as we have found that most patients are not sensitive to pure titanium.

For a great smile, improved aesthetics and your health, we offer our patients Metal Free Dentistry.

Most metal fillings are gold or silver fillings. The silver fillings are actually a mixture of metals known as amalgam and contain over 50% mercury. Mercury is known to be an extremely toxic heavy metal and can reduce kidney, liver and thyroid function, be related to depression and mood swings, can suppress the immune system and is implicated in many nervous system disorders just to mention a few of the health implications.

Metals can leach and interfere with the health of the body and can also cause electromagnetic disturbances to the nervous system and flow of energy in the body.

When plaque bacteria erode tooth enamel, they can form cavities and areas of decay in the tooth structure.

Left unchecked, this can destroy the sensitive nerves and root structure of teeth. Our composite resin fillings are placed in order to stop cavities and restore the bite surface. During the procedure, the decay and only a minimal amount of the original tooth structure will be removed. Composite resin fillings appear natural and are virtually undetectable in your smile.

Even if you have existing metal fillings and amalgams they can be safely removed and replaced with composite tooth-coloured fillings that are beautiful and metal free.

Unlike metal-based crowns of the past, our all-ceramic crowns are crafted using the latest technology and techniques that uses layers of porcelain that not only protect the remaining tooth structure, but look more realistic than crowns of the past. Because of this careful process, light is able to move through the semi-translucent material in much the same way as natural teeth, which means it mimics tooth structure and looks very natural in your smile.
Porcelain is also extremely strong and durable, and will last for years to come.

Metal-based crowns have also been known to erode along the gumline, exposing a dark line of metal at the base of the tooth. We use only metal-free crowns in our restorative dentistry procedures so you never have to worry about being able to see a dark line where your crown finishes against your tooth.

Our patients often report that friends and family can’t tell their crowns from their natural teeth, and that they are confident their bite is stronger because of the porcelain crowns.

Holistic Dentistry refers to dental care that considers the health of your whole body and not just that of your mouth. Brisbane Holistic Dentists assume a comprehensive role in the prevention and treatment of your dental problems. Instead of focusing just on your teeth and gums, we take into account your diet, lifestyle, stress levels, and exercise routines as factors that directly or indirectly influence your dental health. Holistic Dentistry is also known by other names, such as biological dentistry or alternative dentistry.

At Evolve Dental Healing Brisbane, our holistic dentists provide a calm and restful environment so that you may sit back and relax while our friendly dentists and staff guide you along every step of your preventative care program or treatment procedure. True to our holistic philosophy, we look after every aspect of your experience with us.

The term ‘holistic’ is derived from a Greek word that means ‘relating to the whole’. Holistic Dentistry represents the principal role of oral health and how it contributes toward the patient’s overall health and wellbeing, and vice versa. You can’t have a healthy body without a healthy mouth.

The best way to appreciate the need for holistic dentistry is to examine its benefits and advantages over conventional dentistry.

Here are some of the many benefits you can expect from our highly experienced holistic dentist team at Evolve Dental Brisbane:

Comprehensive assessments

In our patient assessments, we consider all the different factors that potentially contribute to a patient’s dental issues including posture, improper bite and jaw relationships, breathing, diet, and lifestyle factors such as emotional stress, lack of sleep, or exercise, toxic chemicals and hydration. Your oral health is a true reflection of your overall health, body, mind, and soul.

Holistic dentists at Evolve Dental Brisbane use highly detailed assessments to leave nothing to chance, simply because you can never be too careful with health matters. That’s why we use cutting edge diagnostic equipment like low exposure digital x-rays and imaging to provide the highest level of diagnostic capability and to improve the safety of our patients and staff.

Holistic dentists say ‘no’ to toxic materials

Toxic substances like fluoride and mercury are found in many traditional dental materials and products. Exposure to harmful toxic dental materials in the body which can have dire consequences on your health and wellbeing

You’ll be glad to know that Evolve Dental Holistic Dentist Brisbane is a mercury-free and fluoride-free dental practice.

If you have silver fillings placed in your teeth most likely they are silver amalgam fillings that contain 50% mercury. As holistic dentist Evolve Dental Healing offers the safe removal of amalgam fillings as a preventative measure – to reduce your long-term exposure to neurotoxic mercury vapour.

We are SMART certified and utilise specialised tools such as the IQAir Dental Pro mercury air filter and Dental HD FlexVac mobile air cleaning system to minimise the toxic mercury vapours released from amalgams during the procedures.

Metal-free materials and treatments

We offer metal-free components for all fillings, crowns, orthodontic, and dental implant treatments.

What makes Evolve Dental Brisbane Holistic Dentist different from other dentists is that we take your total health into consideration as well as working together with your health practitioner and look at the reasons why you have dental issues and design your dental care to address those issues. This ultimately improves both your dental health and also your overall health.

Traditional dentistry just fixes what’s broken without regard to what caused your dental issues in the first place. You have most likely experienced the typical disease-care model of “what can we do to you in as little time as possible.” At Evolve Dental things are different, we like to take the time to get to know you, your dental issues and address them in a way that gives you the best long-term dental and health results.

Our philosophy is built around using a natural and more holistic approach, one which is in more harmony with how your body works, to achieve a better outcome. For instance, we don’t automatically prescribe antibiotics and pain medication unless you really need them. Doing it this way keeps your body stronger, you heal faster with less pain, achieving better results.

Our patients come from all over Queensland, other states and even overseas to benefit from our unique approach to holistic dentistry and the high level of care we offer.

Our patients choose us because our practice aligns with their personal health and lifestyle philosophy. For the same reason that you choose healthy food, you should also choose a holistic dentist.

If you’ve done your research on silver fillings or root canals you know that these procedures are sometimes thought of as controversial and thought by some to potentially lead to short term and long term health problems. Many times we are asked to undo what has been done by traditional dentists because our patients want to reclaim their health which may have been compromised by dental choices made in the past.

Most importantly we work together with you to determine how your mouth got into trouble in the first place and provide treatments that provide long-term benefits. The result is beautiful teeth you will love, combined with a great smile and a healthy mouth.

Dentistry is a combination of both science and art. We take into account your unique situation as we approach your dental health.

At Evolve Dental Brisbane Holistic Dentists we bring together all of the sciences and latest technologies with an amazing facility and highly qualified team to create beautiful teeth in balance with your whole body health. The result for our patients is the dental health they have always wanted that lasts a long time.

Our fees reflect the time and care taken to provide fine dentistry, and in some circumstances may be a little higher than some other dentists. Our patients believe they get more value for money at Evolve Dental Holistic Dentist Brisbane because we deliver all of the other advantages of Holistic Dentistry and also take into account the impact of your dental health on your overall health.

Some traditional dental practices see as many patients in a day as we see in a week! We are not a drill and fill, and give you the bill dental practice, we are here to take the time to provide you with the care and service that you deserve. We offer truly unique services that traditional dentists are unaware of, but our patients demand.

Choose to invest in yourself. Come in, see what sets us apart, and find the high level of care and quality of service you are looking for.

What is a Holistic Dentist?

This is the most common question we are asked as Brisbane’s leading Holistic Dentist. Dentistry is traditionally focused on maintaining a healthy oral cavity. This includes a regular oral cancer screening and ensuring that gum health is maintained. In addition, restoring teeth or replacing teeth that have been affected by tooth decay or trauma. As a holistic dentist, we also focus on providing you with a healthy mouth.

As holistic dentists, it is our philosophy of practice and how we view our patients, and the many connections between oral health and general health that play a significant role.

At Evolve Dental Brisbane Holistic dentist we know that there is a link between your dental health and your overall wellbeing and with that in mind, a holistic dentist is primarily focused on the person attached to that oral cavity!

This informs decisions we make about treatments and how we advise our patients about their health.

in holistic dentistry, oral care goes beyond the teeth and gums. It focuses more on your entire body and its role in dental health. Holistic dentistry doesn’t use mercury fillings and fluoride, unlike traditional dental care.

The true difference between holistic dentistry and traditional dentistry is philosophical: traditional dentistry is the practice of treating the symptoms in the teeth and gums and attempting to prevent such problems from reoccurring. Holistic dentistry is the practice of treating the underlying problems that cause symptoms in the mouth, attempting to eliminate those problems (and, hence, preventing the symptoms from reoccurring) while ensuring the work done in the mouth does not have an adverse effect on your overall health.

As holistic dentists, we like to look at the bigger picture and underlying issues and how these relate to your dental issues and vice versa.

A summary of the things we take into consideration as holistic dentists includes:

  • The role of nutrition in dental disease and chronic diseases. A strong focus on nutrient-dense foods and a diet primarily focused on vegetables, pasture-fed meat, fish, healthy fats, and clean water.
  • As the mouth is the gateway to the respiratory tract, we are aware of the relationship between facial development and jaw shape and the effect on breathing, posture, and sleep-disordered breathing (snoring and sleep apnoea), and health outcomes together with possible treatments using dental devices.
  • The mouth also has a rich blood supply and is the site of the two most common human infections, periodontal (gum) disease, and tooth decay. The implications of chronic oral inflammation and infections on various disease states throughout the body and systemic health are well documented.
  • Dentists implant more material into people’s bodies than all other professionals – in the form of dental restorative materials, and thus when choosing what material we use as a holistic dentist we always factor in the potential for toxicity and biocompatibility issues to ensure we use products that are in line with the health and wellbeing of not only your teeth and mouth but your body as a whole.
  • The mouth and face have a rich supply of nerves. Structural imbalances in the jaw have the potential to impact on health in general. Chronic pain conditions such as headaches, neck aches, and jaw ache are related to increased oral and neck muscle activity that leads to night-time bruxism – teeth clenching or grinding.
  • Regular screening for oral cancer and diseases of the head, neck, and mouth.

If you have dental health fund insurance, you might be able to receive coverage for holistic dental care just like ordinary dental care. The amount you will be covered for depends on your health fund and level of cover.

So, if the differences are philosophical how do you find a dentist that’s right for you — a dentist whose philosophies match your own? There is only one way you will know this. Ask good questions!

Ask questions such as “How do you determine which type of filling is right for me?” and “If I get cavities in one area of my mouth, can you tell me why?” If you want a truly holistic dentist, their answers will revolve around your entire body and he/she will discuss the role your oral health plays in your overall health. If you want a traditional dentist, look for answers that talk more about the topical symptoms, and ask questions about cost/benefit and health coverage.

You always have the right to ask questions and know what’s going on. It’s more than just your right to ask questions of your medical and dental advisers, it’s your duty. It is, after all, YOUR health we’re talking about.

With more people seeking natural or holistic alternatives when it comes to their food, household products, and healthcare, it makes sense that if this is your lifestyle that your dentist should also over natural and holistic approaches to your dental care. Choosing a holistic dentist can help you keep your teeth longer and achieve the beautiful, healthy smile you deserve.

  1. We Focus On Good Bacteria

A holistic approach to dentistry, or integrative dentistry, sees the mouth as an integrated part of the body and considers oral health problems as they relate to total body health. The mouth does not exist in a vacuum. Getting holes in your teeth (cavities) is not normal. The mouth is a microenvironment that mimics the health of your total body. Did you know that plaque and tartar buildup on your teeth can be an indicator of and increase your risk for plaque and tartar buildup in your arteries? The same bacteria associated with gum disease have been found in the hearts of patients with heart disease, in the brains of patients with Alzheimer’s, and in cancer cells of patients with pancreatic cancer. A holistic dentist focuses on balancing the bacteria in their patient’s mouth to improve not only their teeth and gums but their overall health as well.

  1. No black teeth, only good looking smiles here

Holistic dentistry goes much deeper than just cleaning and fixing teeth; each patient’s entire well-being is taken into consideration. As part of holistic philosophy, holistic dentists provide safe mercury amalgam removal technique (SMART) and use biocompatible materials to restore your bite and smile.

  1. Fluoride-free

Holistic dentists don’t advocate the indiscriminate use of fluoride as it is a known neurotoxin. Instead, they opt for products and treatments to make their patient’s teeth stronger using alternatives to fluoride. Dental cavities, also known as dental caries, is the second most prevalent disease in the world, coming in only slightly behind the common cold. Topical mineral and recalcifying products can provide many more benefits than fluoride without any harmful effects.

  1. High tech

Choosing a holistic dentist does not mean sacrificing high tech treatments. In fact, it’s just the opposite. Holistic dentistry is focused on modern, minimally-invasive technologies and treatments. State-of-the-art options include:

  • Advanced 3D low dose digital x-rays
  • Laser treatments to treat gum disease
  • High tech ceramic dental implants
  • Same day crown technology
  • Impression scanning
  1. Snore no more

Many of the signs of snoring, sleep apnoea, and sleep-disordered breathing can be noticed during a routine dental exam and cleaning. Inadequate sleep can lead to weight gain, memory loss, high blood pressure, stroke, heart attacks, impaired alertness, and sudden death. A holistically oriented sleep-trained dentist can manufacture a comfortable and cost-effective mouthpiece to keep the airway clear and allow proper breathing throughout the night.

As a Holistic Dentist we may spend more time with you than most traditional dentists so we can understand your health history and know how to best assess your current dental needs. A comprehensive treatment plan may require additional costs for specialised testing, nutritional supplements and the equipment required to ensure you are not exposed to toxins or dental pollutants during your treatments.

That said the dental aspect of treatments is comparable to any standard dentist and all your treatment options and costs will be made available to you at the time of your consultation.

Holistic dentistry wants you to feel and look your best and if part of that is creating a healthy great-looking smile then yes we offer Cosmetic Dentistry. This includes tooth whitening, white fillings, veneers or crowns to improve the look, shape and colour of your teeth, or orthodontic treatment in some cases.

If you feel our philosophy matches yours, let’s meet to discuss your dental health goals and get you on the path to better health.
